Otoplasty in Albany NY
Ear reshaping at DeLuca Plastic Surgery
A natural balance. Less prominent ears.
If your ears draw more attention than you would like, otoplasty can bring them closer to the head and refine their shape. At DeLuca Plastic Surgery in Albany, the goal is a comfortable, natural-looking correction that fits your face.
Selected patients can have treatment in the office under local anesthesia, with an estimated cost of $4,500.
What does otoplasty change?
Prominent ears may have an underdeveloped fold, a deeper central cartilage bowl, or a combination of both. Surgery reshapes and supports the cartilage to improve the ear’s position and contour. One or both ears may be treated, depending on your anatomy.
This is surgery on the outer ear’s appearance; it is not a treatment for hearing loss. Torn or stretched earlobes are a separate concern and need a different repair.
Is ear surgery right for you?
A consultation considers your goals, ear shape, skin and cartilage, health, medications, and healing history. A good candidate understands the tradeoffs and wants the correction for themselves. If you are considering treatment for a child or teenager, readiness and the appropriate anesthesia setting require an individual discussion.
How we plan your procedure
The correction may involve creating a more defined fold, adjusting excess cartilage, and using sutures to support the new position. Incisions are commonly hidden behind the ear. The technique and anesthesia are selected for the actual correction rather than a single approach for every ear.
Otoplasty pricing and setting
In-office otoplasty under local anesthesia: estimated $4,500. This option is suitable for selected patients. More complex surgery or a different anesthesia setting can change the cost.
Your written quote confirms the planned correction and included fees. Ask our team about current financing options; financing is subject to approval and lender terms.
Recovery after otoplasty
Expect some tenderness, swelling, and bruising during early healing. Dressings protect the ears and support their new position. Keep dressings in place as directed and attend your follow-up visits.
Avoid pressure, rubbing, or bending the ears while they heal. You will receive specific instructions for sleeping, washing your hair, wearing a protective headband if recommended, and returning to work and exercise. Activities that could strike or pull the ears need clearance.
Contact our office promptly about increasing pain, marked swelling on one side, bleeding, fever, or other unexpected symptoms. The early shape can be obscured by swelling, and the result settles with healing.
What to understand before surgery
Risks include bleeding or hematoma, infection, healing problems, scarring, changes in sensation, persistent discomfort, contour irregularities, asymmetry, suture-related issues, and recurrence of prominence. Additional surgery may be needed. Anesthesia has its own risks.
We aim for improvement and balance. Some differences between the ears can remain, and no operation can guarantee perfect symmetry or a particular result.
Common questions
Can otoplasty be done under local anesthesia?
Selected patients can have otoplasty in the office under local anesthesia. Your age, comfort, health, and the correction needed determine whether that setting is appropriate.
Will the ears look exactly alike?
The goal is a balanced, natural appearance. Some asymmetry is normal before surgery and can remain afterward; perfect symmetry is not promised.
Where are the scars?
Incisions are commonly placed behind the ear. The approach depends on the correction, and scars can occasionally become raised or conspicuous.
When can I return to work and exercise?
Plan for an initial recovery period and visible swelling or bruising. Return to work, exercise, and activities that could bend or strike the ears depends on healing and your surgeon’s clearance.
Is otoplasty the same as earlobe repair?
No. Otoplasty changes the shape or prominence of the outer ear. A stretched or torn earlobe requires a different repair; we can discuss that during consultation.
How much does in-office otoplasty cost?
The estimate for selected otoplasty cases performed in the office under local anesthesia is $4,500. Your written quote confirms the procedure, setting, and included fees.
